Learning deserves your attention.
Knolect is a learning-focused productivity project designed to help people use YouTube more intentionally. It aims to reduce distracting recommendation loops and create a more focused environment for educational viewing.
Built as a lightweight Manifest V3 browser extension for Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera), Knolect operates entirely on your device. It does not track your watch history, harvest your personal credentials, or monetize your attention.
Less distraction.
More intention.
YouTube hosts some of the world's most valuable educational content: complete university lecture series, deep coding tutorials, mathematical walkthroughs, and scientific seminars.
Yet the platform's default interface is optimized to maximize watch time through autoplay, algorithmic sidebars, Shorts reels, and sensational recommendations. Learners routinely open YouTube for a single 20-minute lecture, only to be pulled into hours of unrelated video loops.
Knolect was created to restore learner agency. By establishing an intentional boundary between educational study and endless browsing, it helps you finish the lesson you set out to learn.
Our Approach to Focus
Four clear design decisions guide how Knolect protects your learning time.
Intentional learning over endless browsing
We invert the traditional blocker model. Instead of maintaining endless, fragile blocklists, Knolect lets you define your study objective and intercepts unapproved recommendations by default during deep sessions.
User control over personal study channels
You maintain final authority over your learning environment. You can explicitly allow study channels with one click, while our system handles channel ID resolution so your whitelist stays durable.
Focus tools that support deliberate sessions
Unbounded study sessions lead to fatigue and drift. Knolect integrates session timers—such as 25-minute Pomodoro cycles—to help pace your effort and create clear starting and ending boundaries.
Clear, transparent controls over blocking
You decide exactly what is filtered. Granular toggles allow you to silence comments, hide recommendation sidebars, remove Shorts, or clear the home feed entirely, without hidden algorithms.
Engineered For Cognitive Flow
Three client-side subsystems built into Manifest V3 to protect your study time without breaking YouTube.
Timestamp-based countdown prevents drift and displays remaining minutes directly on your browser toolbar badge.
Resolves channel handles, URLs, and canonical 24-character Channel IDs for durable allowlisting.
Deep integration with YouTube's Single Page Application lifecycle prevents recommendation leaks on internal navigation.
